For applicants to the Neurology Residency Program, The University of Arizona Department of Medicine offers preliminary PGY-1 positions. This program provides excellent training and fulfills the internship requirements for Board eligibility. We are able to guarantee PGY-1 positions to applicants that match with our program, however; you must apply to and interview successfully with this program separately from the Neurology program. To apply for this PGY-1 program, you must apply through ERAS, and set up an interview directly with the Department of Medicine.
The program's philosophy with regard to which candidates it accepts can be summarized as
The program accepts candidates of US medical schools and International Medical Graduates (IMGs) on a competitive evaluation process. Neurology positions are offered through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). For IMGs who match with our program, H1-B visas are sponsored by the University of Arizona on a case-by-case basis after departmental recommendation. Passing the USMLE Step 3 with good scores would be in your favor if you are an IMG. Please visit the International Scholars Home Page at the University of Arizona for visa information. International Medical and Graduates, please also visit the Education Council on Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) web site at http://www.ecfmg.org/ for further information.
