Neurology and Rehabilitation Medicine Clerkship

With the introduction to the College of Medicine (COM) of the clinical component of ArizonaMed in 2009, the Neurology Core Clerkship 803 at the University of Arizona COM has undergone a major revision. We have joined with Psychiatry as half of a 10-week block, comprising one of four clinical blocks in the third year. In addition, we are now known as the Neurology and Rehabilitation Medicine Clerkship, as we have incorporated a one-week rehabilitation experience for all students into the Neurology block. Students on the Tucson campus will be exposed to 4 weeks of inpatient and outpatient clinical neurology with emphasis on attaining basic skills in assessing patients with neurologic disease. Rotation sites utilized in Tucson include University Medical Center, Southern Arizona VA Health Care System, UPH Kino Hospital and Tucson Medical Center. In Phoenix, students are assigned to one of two sites: Barrow Neurological Institute (St. Joseph's Hospital) under the auspices of Dr. Denise Campagnolo or Good Samaritan Hospital, under the auspices of Dr. Barry Hendin and associates. The Department of Neurology also offers several electives for those students who wish to pursue a more detailed experience in Neurology, some of which involve subspecialty exposure. Students must complete their basic clerkship in Neurology (803) in order to register for electives.
