SPS3-Secondary Prevention of Small Subcortical Strokes-compares ASA+clopidogrel vs. ASA+placebo in small subcortical strokes (lacunes), randomized to two blood pressure management arms: 130-149 or <130.

  • Must have had a lacunar stroke within 180 days

WARCEF-warfarin vs. ASA in patients with congestive heart failure.

  • Stroke or TIA within 12 months
  • EF<30%
  • No NYHA class 1 or >4
  • No cardiac source of embolism

ProFESS-placebo controlled study of Aggrenox vs. clopidogrel, with or without Micardis in ischemic stroke prevention.

  • No CNS hemorrhage
  • Clinically and neurologically stable
  • No patients who require continued treatment with antithrombotics or anticoagulants

THIS-Treatment of Hyperglycemia in Ischemic Stroke-evaluates the use of subcutaneous insulin vs. insulin pump in patients with acute strokes and hyperglycemia.

  • Stroke within 12 hours
  • Blood glucose of 180-499 mg/dl

AbESTT II-Reopro vs. placebo for patients not eligible for r-tPA.

  • Ischemic stroke within 5.5 hours of symptom onset or 2.5 hours of awakening with symptoms
  • NIHSS 4-22
  • Pre-stroke Barthel=100, m-Rankin=0
